|Top Gear Margovya chronology|
The first series of Top Gear Margovya was broadcast in Margovya from February 27, 2009 and concluding on April 3, 2009. It contained six episodes. It was supposed to air eleven episodes, but after an incident in episode six in which presenter Gavrina Kumilyova drove a car through the walls of the Presidential Palace right into the office of then-incumbent President Gennady Elemat, Let's Talk Margovya ended the series right then after Elemat threatened to sue. The series included presenters Gavrina Kumilyova, Tanya Kalinina, and Maria Atolova.
|Overall no.||No. in series||Reviews||Guest||Airdate|
|1||1||Yakovich T54, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Yakovich T68, Yakovich T100, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, Ford Crown Victoria||Pristina Leonova||February 27, 2009|
|Introduction: The girls celebrate the first episode of Top Gear Margovya with a bang--literally. They set off fireworks in front of the studio, and Maria wonders whether a stray firework could bring down an airplane flying above, to which Gavrina immediately replies that they are "a car show, not an airplane show, for God's sake."
Main Review: Gavrina reviews the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. She introduces the Pimp, an anonymous ("tame") racing driver from the 1940s who hides his face behind a gas mask; who was given to them by the Tenth Doctor for the sole purpose of posting lap times. He manages a lap time of 1:23.3 on a hot track, the first car ever tested on the Top Gear Margovya test track. She calls it impractical, cumbersome, and difficult to drive, but beautiful and racy: a work of art if she ever saw one.
News: The trio discuss the retirement of the last Chevrolet Caprice police cars in Margovya, and the introduction of articulated buses (or as Gavrina likes to call them, "London accordion buses") in the Ikulsk public transport system.
Challenge: Gavrina, Tanya and Maria each bring their own sports cars and try to race each other down the 749-km long Northern Margovyan Superhighway and try to beat the Pimp's record, 2:32:10 driving a Yakovich T100. Maria made it in 3:38:12 with her Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera; Tanya finished in 3:23:46 in her Yakovich T54, and Gavrina did it in "52 seconds before 3 hours" (2:59:08) in her Yakovich T68. Since the fastest car is the T100, the Pimp drives it around the Top Gear Margovya test track, posting a time of 1:22.4, narrowly beating the 8C.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Former President Pristina Leonova sits down with Gavrina, who explains the concept behind Star in a Reasonably Priced Car and then introduces the car itself: a Ford Crown Victoria (obtained from the Ford production plant in Calsoncios). Gavrina sets the first lap time of 1:50.8 in the Crown Victoria, with Maria in the passenger seat and Tanya in the back. It is later revealed that the Pimp set a time of 1:40.6. Leonova set a lap time of 1:49.4.
Trivia: David Tennant shot a few scenes for the show as the Tenth Doctor, in which he gave the Pimp to the presenters of Top Gear Margovya.
|2||2||Yakovich U||Terentiy Nakhimov||March 6, 2009|
|Main Review: Gavrina reviews the Yakovich U, the model that came after the T100. Gavrina says that the U feels rushed through production even though it's not, it has a slightly undetectable understeer, and that the raw animal power in the 6.2 liter V8 engine is somewhat underutilized. However, Gavrina countered that the 368 kilometer-per-hour top speed of the U makes up for the underutilized engine, that the understeer was undetectable enough to not matter, and that it had very graceful and aesthetic lines. The Pimp posts a lap time of 1:20.6 in the U.
Challenge: The Pimp drives the Yakovich U down the 882-km long Southern Margovyan Superhighway in 3:12:08. Tanya, Gavrina, and Maria try to drive the U down the same expressway, and recorded lap times of 4:18:10 (Atolova), 4:44:44 (Kalinina), and 3:58:05 (Kumilyova).
News: Gavrina admits that she bought a safety orange-colored Yakovich U. Maria says that the repaving of both the North and South Margovyan Superhighways could pose a problem for future challenges in which they might have to use the superhighways.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Famed Margovyan watercolorist Terentiy Nakhimov sits down with Tanya, talks about his painting career, and shows the hosts some of his art works. He even presented them with a watercolor of the three hosts standing under the Top Gear logo. Before Nakhimov's lap is shown, Tanya's lap is shown, where she sets a time of 1:51.6 with Gavrina in the passenger seat and Maria in the back. Nakhimov himself drove the Crown Victoria around the Top Gear Margovya test track in 1:47.9.
Trivia: For this episode, the challenge should have been the Ten tweets challenge, wherein the girls each try to post at least ten tweets of at least 100 characters each inside the trunk of a car while the Pimp drives down a 20-kilometer freeway course. However, since Tanya doesn't have a Twitter account yet, and would never have one until 76 episodes later, the girls decided to cancel the challenge and think of another one.
|3||3||Yakovich S6, Lubovenko LUBO130||Svetlana Elemat||March 13, 2009|
Main Review: Gavrina reviews the Lubovenko LUBO130, which has a top speed of 368 kph. The Pimp drives it around the Top Gear Margovya test track in 1:20.5.
Review: Maria reviews the Yakovich S6, which has a top speed of 347 kph, and tries to drive it while wearing a blindfold along a 20-kilometer freeway.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Famous movie star Svetlana Elemat sits down with Maria and talks about her colorful movie career, and her relationships with famous movie actors before marrying Robert Elemat, including her controversial affair with Genrikh Antonov and her tragic relationship with the late Marvik Ribabov. Before Elemat's lap is shown, Maria's lap was shown, with Tanya in the passenger seat and Gavrina in the back. Maria sets a lap time of 2:19.1, earning her the title "Captain Slow", the title given to James May by his co-presenters in the original Top Gear because of his slow and careful driving. Elemat herself drove the Crown Victoria around the track in 1:49.7.
|4||4||Lubovenko LIC75, Yakovich R576, Yakovich "Monster Shut Up"||Foma Adzhitekov||March 20, 2009|
|Main Review: Maria reviews the Yakovich R576, which has a top speed of 348 kph, and can go from 0 to 60 (0 to 96 in kph) in about 3.6 seconds. The Pimp drives it around the Top Gear Margovya test track in 1:24.1.
Review: Gavrina reviews the Lubovenko LIC75, which has a top speed of 321 kph, and drives it on a rough rally race track.
Challenge: Gavrina tries to make a Yakovich M91 monster truck achieve the top speed of a Yakovich U-Shut Up, which is 415 kph. She called her creation the "Yakovich Monster Shut Up". She tests it in a freeway, but the engine blew up after running for only about 20 seconds.
|5||5||Yakovich Q-ERUVA, Andropov K-Pop||Boris Sorbariyev||March 27, 2009|
|Main Review: Maria reviews her newly-acquired Yakovich Q-ERUVA, which she bought from a Yakovich production plant in Queruva for 1,200,000 margots (using her husband Roland Tidzhomov's credit card). The Pimp drives it around the Top Gear Margovya test track in 1:18.7.
Challenge: The hosts try to drive the Andropov K-Pop, the most fuel-inefficient car ever made in Margovya, on a 20-kilometer freeway track with only 5 liters of fuel. Tanya ran out of gas after driving 5 kilometers; Gavrina ran out of gas after 11 kilometers, while Maria secretly filled her car with gas before testing it.
|6||6||Yakovich R40, Yakovich "V301"||Baba Filitov||April 3, 2009|
|Main Review: Tanya reviews the Yakovich R40, which has a top speed of 319 kilometers per hour, and declares that this is the slowest car she has ever reviewed, to which Gavrina said, "How can you say that when this is the first car that you have ever reviewed!". The Pimp drives the car around the Top Gear Margovya test track, and confirmed that the R40 really is the "slowest Yakovich sports car he has ever driven", posting a lap time of 1:39.9.
Challenge: Gavrina wanted to make the Yakovich V300, one of Anton Yakovich's most delicate sports cars, "indestructible" like the Yakovich M91 monster truck, and calls her creation the Yakovich "V301". She tests it on different obstacles and buildings and proves that it is "indestructible". However, Gavrina takes it too far, and crashes through the wall of the Margovyan Palace (official residence of the President of Margovya), right into the president's office.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Former President Baba Filitov sits down with Maria and talks about his political career, a few controversial decisions he made during his administration, and his car history. Filitov drove around the Top Gear Margovya test track in 1:50.3. A notable incident in Filitov's lap is when he turned into the last corner of the track on two wheels, prompting the presenters to rename the corner "Filitov Corner" in his honor.
Trivia: Because of the events in the Episode 6 challenge, President Gennady Elemat nearly sued Top Gear Margovya, forcing it to end its first series immediately although it was supposed to air five more episodes. On April 4, 2009, Gavrina announced that this episode was the last episode of Top Gear Margovya, but surprisingly, the Margovyan Palace allowed Top Gear Margovya back on air again, and it officially announced a second series on May 26, 2009.
